What makes art unique? How is it that a piece of workmanship from an artist is able to inspire, provoke curiosity, unlock emotions, or even cause us to take action? For example, seeing a painting of a place once visited may inspire someone to return to that destination, while a photograph or monument created to remember and commemorate the past may convey a motivating message for the future. Art is unique in that it has the power to move people, often times, activating a response.
Did you know that God is an artist and that Christians are His personal workmanship? We are His work of art, His masterpiece.
“ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 ESV
The word workmanship comes from the Greek word poiema, meaning something fashioned, crafted together, someone’s workmanship – as in their masterpiece. That is you in the eyes of God.
God fashioned you in secret crafting your life together to influence the world in a special way. When we live out of that personal, God-given uniqueness, it activates a chain of events intended for eternal impact. This means that you have the ability to inspire, provoke curiosity, unlock emotions and influence someone to take action on the causes God cares about.
How has God gifted you? What is His purpose for your life to influence future generations? How do you take the next steps in building a platform to begin that life-giving work?
